俗话说，“好记性不如烂笔头”，无论是在做听力实训、会议记录还是做同声传译、交互传译，速记都是非常重要的帮助记忆和理解的工具。本《教程》中的速记不是传统意义上的速记法(Shorthand)，即系统而完整的编码，而是一种富有创造性、想像力、符合语言表达规律的英语速录与笔记记录法。本《教程》由孤立割裂的技能强化延伸到实用技能以及综合应用能力的适度操练，旨在培养学生成为“英语+x技能”的实操能手；高职学科专业基础知识与英语记录和笔记技能有机结合；速记功能性模块式、模拟强化实训与各职业岗位有机接轨，旨在培养“耳灵、眼明、手怏”的英语职业技工。

《实用英语速记基础教程》是北京市高等教育精品教材立项项目，也是教育部高职高专英语类专业教学指导委员会精品课程“英语速记”的教材。本教材根据《关于全面提高高等职业教育教学质量的若干意见》中有关“工学结合”的基本要求，结合目前高等职业院校英语专业学生的实际水平和基本特点，创立了一种新型的融“教、学、做”为一体的交互模拟式“英语(视)听一英语记录(速录+笔记)”实训体系。

书中按学科分为10个单元，每个单元由“速记工作坊”(WORKSHOPS)和“学科讲坛”(LECTURES)两大部分组成。通过配套的立体交互模拟实训软件，帮助学生领会和掌握准确有效完成记录相关英语信息的方法和技能。全书内容新颖、实用，练习多样、丰富，将学习、练习和趣味性融为一体，是一本很好的技能训练教程。书后附有生词讲解、练习答案、视听材料原文以及速记技巧介绍，供使用者学习参考。
