编者任芸丹在多年教学实践经验的基础上，考虑学生就业方式多样化的形势需要，以技能型人才培养为目的，以贴近企业用人和学生就业的实际需求为导向，编写《新编模具专业英语》一书，旨在通过较短时间的学习较大幅度地巩固模具专业学生的基础英语水平、拓宽知识面，提高学生的专业英语阅读和英译中的能力。

任芸丹主编的《新编模具专业英语》为适应高等学校模具专业英语教学需要编写，力求图文并茂、选材新颖、注重应用。

《新编模具专业英语》在侧重阅读理解、掌握模具专业常用词汇的基础上，从模具专业特点出发，并注意吸收现代模具新技术方面的有关知识，共分6个单元，分别讲述了模具材料与热处理、模具设计与工艺、模具加工与制造、模具装配与试模、模具CAD/CAM/CAE以及最后学生就业求职等方面的内容，大部分文章选自相关专业教材、相关专业刊物原文或相关专业网站。为便于阅读，在编排上各单元相对独立，每篇正文后都有参考译文，便于帮助学生理解和核查自己所掌握的内容，同时为扩大阅读范围，还增添了补充阅读材料，以供学有余力的学生阅读。

《新编模具专业英语》可作为高等院校模具设计与制造专业的英语教材，也可作为工程技术人员提高专业外语水平的学习参考书。
