本书所选论文主要关注全球传播所面临的一些困境，比如媒体奇观、传播压迫、国家形象的建构、全球传播的霸权主义以及传播的价值冲突与价值认同等问题。主要讨论了数字传媒时代的信息与文化传播理论，探讨了新媒体的技术应用及其传播效果，分析了新媒体传播与社会整合、政治参与之间的互动影响。部分论文全面分析了一些国家的媒介转型，如中国的报纸角色、民生新闻理念、传媒产业的聚合与重组等，从中可以看出政治、经济、文化与媒介发展有着千丝万缕的联系。
