《新编英语文体学教程》是根据《高等学校英语专业英语教学大纲》的要求，为我国英语专业本科高年级学生编写的。本教材也可供研究生使用和青年教师参考。

多年来，该教材的初稿，即《普通文体学》（教案）一直在首都师范大学、河北师范大学、中国地质大学等高等学校英语专业本科高年级学生和/或研究生中使用，收到了很好的效果。全书分两大部分，第一部分介绍了文体学的基础理论以及文体分析的基本理论框架；第二部分对各类功能文体的范文进行文体分析，学以致用。
