随着大学外语教学水平的不断提高，研究生外语学习的起点也逐年提升，全国大学英语教学大纲和研究生英语教学大纲相继做了修订。根据二十一世纪研究生公共英语教学的具体需要，外教社在全国范围内进行了广泛深入的调研，听取了我国英语教学专家学者的建议，在认真分析当前研究生英语教学现状的基础上，经过精心策划，组织清华大学、复旦大学、浙江大学、山东大学、中山大学、大连理工大学、南京航空航天大学等十余所重点大学，于2002年推出了“新世纪研究生公共英语教材”。本书为其系列中的《听说》分册。
