本书根据《大学英语教学指南》和《大学英语教学大纲》对高校大学英语课程教学提出的总体要求，按照《中国英语能力等级量表》相关等级标准，为扎实训练学生英语读写译应用技能，培养学生跨文化交流能力而编写。全书由13套训练题组成，每套题均由词汇短语训练、英汉互译训练、阅读理解训练和提示写作训练四个部分组成。词汇训练主要通过匹配、填空、选择的形式，训练学生对大学英语重点词汇和短语在特定语境中的语义的理解和掌握；翻译练习包括英译汉和汉译英两项内容，依次为英汉短语互译、英汉句子互译、段落英汉互译，增强学生对与专业相关的核心知识点的理解，培养跨文化交流中的英语实际应用能力；阅读理解主要通过简答、判断、匹配、选择、完型填空等形式来训练学员对相关主题内容的进一步理解，增加相关的新信息和新知识；写作练习通过设定与学生学习、生活及未来工作密切相关的话题，通过提示，引导学员分步骤完成写作任务，训练英语写作能力。
