本书以科学论文写作的指导为主要内容，详细梳理了英语科学论文写作的基本要点，包括语言要点、体裁结构，并设计了大量的练习、活动，帮助英语学习者掌握专业用途英语写作的要点。
共有10章，主要可以分为两大部分：第一部分以宏观语言关照为主，强调科学论文的语言特色，促进学习者由普通英语学习（General English）向专业英语(Discipline-specific Academic English)学习的过渡。第二部分则通过体裁的介入，强调科学论文的篇章结构及其实现手段，实现语言形式、意义和功能的结合。
本书能够帮助非英语专业的高年级本科生、研究生尤其是理科生掌握基本的英语科学论文写作规范和技能，同时也可以当作一般英语写作等课程的参考材料。

桑紫林，华东师范大学副教授、博士，长期从事大学英语教学和研究工作。先后主持数个上海市精品课程并获得“申万宏源教学奖”、校级优秀任课教师等荣誉称号。作为参与者，获得多项上海市教学成果奖一等奖。参与多项国家研究项目，主持过多个校级教学和科研项目，先后发表教学论文十余篇。
