在贯彻国家“十四五”发展规划及2035年教育强国思想基础上，以“培根铸魂，启迪智慧”为指导原则，组织编写了本教材。教材共12个单元，侧重于理论的全球化与文化多样性、文化语境、跨文化感知、文化休克与跨文化适应、言语与非言语交际、跨文化能力、跨文化人际交往，以及强于实践的跨文化商务、跨文化教育、跨文化旅游、跨文化传媒等。
教材具有“古今对照、中外融通，学思结合、学用一体”等特征，适合高校外语类、管理类、传播与国际教育等专业学生使用，也可作为大学生素质拓展与企业员工跨文化能力培训之用。
